Game 5

Home Up

Thanks to a scheduling quirk that saw 5 baseball games in 10 days to start the season, Tyler's baseball team has gotten off to a rocky start. Their latest loss came in the form of a 4-0 loss to the Tigers, although there were plenty of questionable calls throughout the game that if changed could have resulted in a different score (although it certainly wouldn't have changed the outcome). Primary amongst those questionable calls was a disputed home run by a player on Tyler's team which was changed to an out only after the Tigers coach called a conference with his entire infield, had them tell the ump that the runner missed third base (and I was told from several parents that he did indeed miss the base, so technically the call was correct), who immediately called the runner out. No questions asked. From where I stood as first base coach, I couldn't tell if he touched the bag or not. I'm not certain that the ump could from where he was standing either. There were others as well, but like I said, if the result of these questionable calls was changed the outcome still would have been a loss, so I guess at this point there is no crying over spilled milk. It did get so bad that at one point our head coach had to yell at their head coach to stop making calls for the ump... "He got hit by the ball, Blue..." "That's catcher interference, Blue..."

On a personal level, Tyler finished the game with one throwing error (the ball sailed over the first baseman's head as Tyler through it from right field) and one outfield assist (he managed to hit the target on his second opportunity, throwing the runner out at first). He also walked in his first at bat, but later struck out to end the game.
