Game 2

Home Up

We weren't quite sure that this game was going to take place today or not, as only part of the team arrived to the field on time. It wasn't only until shortly before the start of the game when most of the kids finally showed up. Unfortunately there wasn't enough kids for the Rays to technically play the game, as only 7 players made it to the field and 8 are required to play a game. As there are only 9 kids on the team normally, this could be a recurring issue throughout the entire year. Fortunately for Samantha, the coaches got together and decided to play the game anyway. She had one of her best games in her minor league career tonight, going 2 for 2 from the plate with two singles and an RBI. She walked in her other three plate appearances. She also played well in the field, where she returned to her comfort zone of second base. She wasn't the only player who gave their all tonight, as the Rays went on to win big, by a 15-8 score (it was 13-1 at one point until the Rays started rotating in pitchers to give them experience). All in all, a 1-1 start to the year isn't too terrible, considering the amount of players on the team.

Game 2 - at Rockies

Samantha was locked in on the pitches while batting tonight.

Sam was prepared to swing, but the ball came in around her head. Any other time that would be a ball, but tonight it was a strike (not once, but twice!) for Sammie.

Sam couldn't believe the strike calls that went against her. Thankfully she managed a walk in that at-bat.

Sam successfully stole second base, and had her eye on stealing third.

Sam waited patiently before heading to third on a steal.

In her second at bat, Sam cranked her first hit of the day.

Sammie moving over to cover second base on the throw from the catcher during warm-ups.

Sam covering second base.

Sam playing second base.

Sam ready to steal third once again, this time after her second hit of the game.

Sam ready to bat for the fourth time in today's game.

Sammie looking for the perfect pitch to hit.

Sam made it first base on a walk in her final at-bat.
