Game 2 of the tournament was supposed to get underway at
11:40am, but rain delayed the games prior. Things looked like they were all set
to go until another storm rolled in just about the time the girls were supposed
to start this one. What originally started with a 20 minute delay for lightening
was extended as we were ordered to clear the fields altogether. After a long,
rain-soaked walk to the truck (parked about 1/4 mile away) and some downtime
waiting for the rain to stop things seemed set to start the game. Only somebody
saw lightening again, delaying the start of the game for another 20 minutes.
Finally, around 2:00pm, the game was started. Because of all of the rain delays
this game was shortened - from two 30 minute halves with a 5 minute halftime to
what we thought was supposed to be two 20 minute halves with no halftime.
Unfortunately we didn't even get the two 20 minute halves, instead just playing
for 40 minutes straight. All of the downtime before finally kicking off must
have hurt our girls concentration a bit, as the SCOR team scored within the
first two minutes of play. The La Forza girls hung tough, though, answering that
goal with one of their own. They couldn't quite get over the hump, even with
some quality scoring chances. The SCOR girls scored again, giving them a 2-1
lead before La Forza could answer with one of their own to tie the game at two.
After scoring the first goal two minutes into the game, the SCOR squad managed
to net another with less than two to play as well. This was the only goal that
went unmatched by the La Forza girls, as they dropped their first game of the
tournament (and their season, including indoor ball) by a 3-2 score. This loss
dropped them to 1-1 in the tourney, but didn't eliminate the girls from the
chance at playing in the finals. It would take some luck, but the girls had
played well enough to earn that shot thus far in the tournament.
