Home Up

May 15th, 2015

After competing the entire season for the varsity track team as a sophomore, Tyler found himself competing once more for the varsity team as one of the team's top two high jumpers over the course of the year. With so many different schools competing at one meet, the opening height for today's competition was set higher than the usual height that Tyler had become accustomed to. While Tyler has cleared over 5'-6" during practice, that happened to be his personal record in a competition. It also happened to be the opening height for this meet. While Tyler gave it his best shot, he wasn't able to clear it. While some members of the team moved on to the state meet, the entire team was only 0.5 points away from qualifying... disappointing to be sure, but Tyler really had a great first year as a high jumper. Good job Tyler!

Track & Field Meet - MHSAA Regionals

Tyler and the other jumpers getting direction from the official before the jumping begins.

Tyler running up for the approach on his first jump attempt...

...and beginning his jump...

...and arching his back over the bar...

...but not quite getting enough height with his legs...

...and knocking the bar down.

Tyler coming up for attempt number two...

...and jumping high once again...

...but coming down too soon...

...and knocking off the bar once more.

Tyler getting some advice from a couple of the coaches behind

Tyler setting his mark for his final jump attempt...

...and beginning his approach...

...and nearing his jumping point...

...and starting his jump...

...and getting good height...

...but hitting the bar once more...

...and landing on the mat with a bunch of frustration.

Tyler rolled to the edge of the mat...

...before getting up, feeling disappointed in himself in a rough end to a great season.
