Game 2

Drew and his Storm teammates were riding high after their first victory of the season yesterday, coming in to this morning's early contest determined to repeat that success. Unfortunately they got off to a bit of a slow start, giving up two quick goals in the first period. They managed to battle back and bring themselves close with a 2-1 score, but once again they allowed a quick goal to restore the 2 goal deficit. Again they didn't give up and scored to make it a one goal game. As time was winding down they were pressing to tie the game at 3 goals apiece when a defensive breakdown led to an easy goal that sealed the 4-2 defeat for the Storm team in their second game of the Motown Cup tournament.

For reasons that I don't understand, Drew asked to play defense today. While we've had coaches say that this is probably Drew's more natural position, it seems that he has been much better passing and skating with the puck on his stick and firing away at the goal than he has playing defense. I know he will get better with time (he needs to work on skating backward and turning earlier to skate with the offensive player if he is going to stick on defense), but I see him more as a "power forward" type in the mold of Brendan Shanahan or Todd Bertuzzi.
