Game #19

Drew and his Lapeer Storm teammates took to the ice tonight to start their final weekend of regular season hockey, taking on the Metro Jr. Jets in a home and home series. Things started out strongly today, as the Storm got on the board first with a goal that I had given credit for to Drew, but Drew later told me that it wasn't him. Both he and a teammate were jabbing at the puck in front of the goal, and I couldn't see clearly which stick got to the puck first, but he was able to give me my answer. The Storm team had a lot of opportunity to expand on their lead, but some strong goaltending by the Jets netminder was able to keep them off the board. It was the Jets who found the back of the net next, tying the game at a goal apiece late in the period.

The two teams traded chances throughout the second period, but strong defensive play and goaltending by both teams meant resulted in both teams being blanked. The beginning of the third period started out going back and forth between the two teams, with the Storm scoring early in the period and the Jets evening things up at two goals apiece halfway through. The Storm team finally broke out of their offensive slump, taking advantage of a few of their offensive chances, to open up a two goal lead. Down two and on a power play with 2:30 left on the clock the Jets opted not to pull their goalie, and the Storm team was able to seal the victory. They will look to make it two in a row to end the season on Sunday. Go Storm!
