After a surprising first outing as a team, the Flint Jr.
Firebirds II team looked what you would expect a brand new start-up
team to look like in today's game against the Troy Sting. They fell
behind early in the game, giving up a goal less than a minute in.
They played better for the next 9 minutes or so, keeping things
close and generating some scoring chances before things fell apart
at the end of the first. Four goals in the last 4 minutes of the
period blew the game wide open, as the Firebirds fell apart. The
first of those four goals was a power play goal as a result of
Drew's tripping penalty. Unfortunately for Drew he was on the ice
for the other five goals in the period. The onslaught continued
into the second period, as two more quick goals opened up a seven
goal deficit for the Firebirds. The Firebirds finally answered with
a goal of their own with a little over 10 minutes left in the
second. Mercifully that was it for scoring in the period.
The third period wasn't any better for Firebirds parents and
players, as they were kept off the scoreboard once again. The Sting
added two more goals before it was over, sealing the 9-1 loss for
the Firebirds. |
