Drew and his Holly teammates travelled to Lake Fenton to take on
the Fenton team in today's opening round of the Quadtown Tournament.
The teams would be playing intermediate rules in this tournament,
which meant longer base paths and a longer distance to home from the
pitching mound. The kids could also take a lead off of the bases and
steal at any time. Fenton got off to the fast start tonight,
shutting Holly down for three straight innings while plating three
runs in the first inning. Drew got an at-bat in the first inning,
but ended up going down swinging. Holly changed pitchers after the
first, and settled things down after that. They finally broke
through in the fourth inning, scoring five runs to grab a 5-3 lead.
They kept the hot bats going in the fifth, including single by Drew.
He stole third base and home, scoring one of his team's four runs in
the inning, jumping out to a 9-3 lead. They gave one run back in the
fifth, but still maintained a five run lead heading into the sixth
and final inning. Holly failed to add on to their lead in the top of
the inning, which included a strikeout by Drew, as he went down
looking. Fenton continued their comeback efforts in the bottom of
the inning, scoring three runs to make it a two run game before
Holly finally managed to seal the win with the final out. With the
9-7 victory Holly moves on to the Championship game on Thursday, the
29th. |
