Game 2

Game number 2 for the Holly 2 team was played on a cold, blustery day, and the weather was affecting the way the kids played today. Drew's team started out struggling to hit in their half of the inning, but they were able to answer with some solid pitching. Drew smashed a triple that gave his team the early 1-0 lead. His steal of home gave his team the 2-0 lead, but that was all they could manage for this goal. The third inning saw the lead evaporate, as the game was knotted at 2 runs apiece. Things fell apart in the fourth even as Drew's team plated their third run of the game (scored by Drew after being hit in the head by a pitch and stealing second base before being driven home on a hit by a teammate), as a pitching change led to a slew of runs for the opposition, who grabbed a 6-3 lead. They tacked on a seventh run in the fifth to expand their lead to 4 runs. At that point it looked like the game was pretty much decided, but there was enough time to start another inning. Drew went down swinging in the his final at-bat of the game, and then another out made it seem as though their chances had slipped away from them. Thankfully they didn't give up, and they mounted a comeback for the ages, getting timely hit after timely hit, and scoring enough runs to tie the game at 7 each. They fell just short of grabbed the lead, though, and the Holly 4 team got a couple timely hits themselves in their half of the 6th inning, and they scored the only run they needed to take the win by an 8-7 score.
