With a win or a draw in this morning's game, the Liverpool girls
would be moving on to the Midwest United Cup Championship game later
this afternoon. The first half of the game was a back and forth
affair, but it was the Valpo Select team that broke down the defense
to sneak one past the Liverpool keeper, grabbing a 1-0 lead. They
would hold on to that lead until halftime, despite a couple of good
chances from the Liverpool girls.
The second half definitely went the opposite way that the
Liverpool players and fans had hoped, as the Valpo girls controlled
the play, holding off all of the Liverpool attacks while breaking
through for three goals of their own. The 4-0 loss eliminated
Liverpool from the Championship game, ending their day early.
Once again Jayden spent the majority of the game playing defense,
but she did get the chance to play forward late in the game. She got
another shot off in close, but couldn't sneak the ball past the
Valpo keeper, who played a great game today.
Although the outcome of the weekend wasn't the one that we all
hoped for, the 2-1 record isn't too bad considering the lack of
practice that the girls have had together and the fact that some of
the girls have never played soccer at this level before. Great job
Liverpool girls! |
