Samantha and her FC Sarasota teammates stepped out of their
normal league play today as they travelled to Clearwater to take on
the Chargers in a CDL (Club Directors League) game. Today's game was
played much cleaner than yesterday's battle, though it had a weird
flow to it. The referee seemed to favor the Clearwater team on the
vast majority of his calls, and he would wind up tossing the FC
Sarasota coach midway through the first half. Despite controlling
the play for the majority of the game, the FCS team struggled in
converting on their chances in their offensive end. In fact, despite
only giving up two shots on goal to the Chargers, FCS trailed 2-0 at
halftime. Sarasota had a goal by Sam waved off for an offsides call
that would have tied it up 1-1 at the time, and that would be a
painful lost goal. It was a close call, and occurred on the opposite
end of the field from where we were seated, so I had to trust the
AR's call.
Sarasota's lone goal of the game came on a beautiful corner kick
in the second half that was knocked into the net thanks to a well
timed header, making it a 2-1 game. Clearwater wasn't quite as
accurate with their kicks in the second half, but they were able to
score their third goal of the game on a breakaway (their second of
the game, as it seems that most of their offense comes from one
really fast player sprinting through the middle of the defense).
They would add a fourth goal later as they back of the net was left
wide open, leaving a Clearwater player standing free, able to easily
boot the ball into the goal. That would be it, as FC Sarasota would
lose a game that they controlled, moving their record to 4-1 on the
season. |
