Drew switched uniforms tonight, suiting up for the first time as
a member of the Flint Jr. Firebirds after playing two games for his
other team, the HoneyBaked hockey club. The Firebirds would be
taking on the Livonia Knights, on their home ice. The Firebirds
got off to a good start, scoring the opening goal of the game near
the 11 minute mark. Things got better as they would tack on their
second goal of the game 4 minutes later. Although they had momentum
on their side, that would be it for the scoring in the opening
period.
Less than three minutes into the second period they would widen
their lead even further, scoring their third goal of the game. The
Firebirds streak would stop shortly thereafter, as a power play goal
by the Knights closed the gap to 2 goals as the score was now 3-1.
The Firebirds weren't deterred, and they regained the 3 goal margin
just minutes later when they scored their fourth goal of the game.
That would be it for the scoring in this period, and the two teams
headed to the final intermission with the Firebirds up by a 4-1
score.
After each of the first two periods got off to a good start for
the Firebirds, the third went the exact opposite. The Knights
stormed out from the opening faceoff to score just 10 seconds into
the period. Although this wasn't how the Flint team wanted the
period to start, they didn't quit. They would score once again just
minutes later, making it a 5-2 game. Despite some power play
opportunities for both teams, that would be the score that stood
until the end of the game. What a great start to the spring season
for the Firebirds! |
