Today's scrimmage marked the debut of Drew with his new Florida
Jr. Everblades team as they travelled to Pembroke Pines to face off
against the Golden Wolves in a scrimmage double header. The team has
only practiced together once to this point, so we weren't really
expecting them to look great on the ice, though I do think that
today's result was better than expected considering their lack of
time together, along with the fact that they only had 9 skaters
available today. The Golden Wolves dominated the puck, drastically
outshooting the Everblades. The fact that they period was winding
down scoreless was a testament to the defensive work and goaltending
of the Everblades team. If it wasn't for a missed pass with less
than a minute in the period, the 0-0 score likely would have stood.
Instead, the Wolves were able to tap the puck behind the Everblades
goalie to grab the lead with just 41 seconds remaining.
The second period was pretty similar to the first, as the Wolves
once again controlled the majority of the action. The only penalty
call of the period came at the 11 minute mark, as the Everblades
were called for hooking. Thankfully they were able to kill off the
entire two minutes, and the score remained 1-0 in favor of the
Golden Wolves. Unfortunately they did score again, this time on a
pass through the crease that was tapped in for the second goal and a
2-0 lead.
There wasn't much excitement for either team in the third period,
with the only thing to really report out on is the tripping penalty
against the Wolves midway through the period. Unfortunately that
meant that they Everblades weren't able to come up with an goals of
their own, and they would fall by a 2-0 score.
As I said, although the scrimmage would go into the loss column,
the overall results was pretty positive. Hopefully with a full
roster and some practices under their belt they will find their
groove and have a successful season. Go Junior Everblades! |
