After spending last season suiting up in the gear of the Novi
FireCats (before the team fell apart), Drew is sporting the colors
of the HoneyBaked hockey program (as well as the Flint Firebirds)
this spring as he searches for a new team. Tonight the HoneyBaked
team hosts the Mt. Clemens Wolves in their first game of the spring
season. The first period got off to a fast start, as the Wolves
netted the first goal just 2:15 into the game. That would be it for
scoring this period though, as the defenses tightened up, and
goaltending settled in a bit. Trailing by just a goal gave the
HoneyBaked team hope as the period came to an end.
Mt. Clemens got off to a fast start in the second period as well,
scoring their second goal of the game just 74 second in, claiming a
2-0 lead. They tacked on their third goal just 2:30 later to take a
3-0 lead. The HoneyBaked team finally broke through with just under
10 minutes remaining to narrow the gap to 3-1, a score that would
hold up to the final intermission.
For the third straight period, the Wolves opened up with a quick
score, making it a 4-1 game a mere 45 seconds in. The HoneyBaked
boys came up with a quick response, answering with a goal of their
own less than a minute later, narrowing the deficit to 2 goals with
13 and a half minutes to play. The two teams settled down a bit
after that, and traded scoring opportunities without success. The
Mount Clemens team tacked on one last goal with under 6 minutes to
play, making it a 5-2 game, a score that would stand until the final
whistle blew.
Not a great start for the HoneyBaked team, but there were signs
of life throughout the game that could prove positive over the
course of the spring. |
