Drew and his Novi FireCats teammates advanced to the
quarterfinal stage of the LCAHL playoffs, pairing up against the
Plymouth Stingrays in this mornings contest. The two teams battled
back and forth, but the defense and goaltending by both teams was
just too strong, as both period one and two ended in 0-0 ties. With
just over 10 minutes remaining in the third period, the FireCats
finally broke the ice, scoring on a tip in after a big scramble in
front of the net. With the way the game had been going up until now,
it seemed as though that might be the lone goal of the game, but the
Stingrays managed an answer with a little over 6 minutes remaining.
They managed a 2 on 1 breakaway, and some back and forth passing got
the FireCats goalie out of position, and just like that the game was
tied. That would be it for the scoring, as the game would end tied
1-1, and would the overtime period.
The game would be decided in a shootout, and (unfortunately) it
was basically over before it started. Most of the Novi FireCats
parents knew that they would struggle to score based on who was
lined up to shoot, and that fear became reality as the shootout
unfolded. It would be the Stingrays who would score, and they would
walk away with a 2-1 victory, sending the FireCats home after a
heartbreaking defeat. |
