For the second time in three nights, Drew and his Novi FireCats
teammates faced off against the Birmingham Rangers, this time in a
scrimmage. Drew's former goalie, Blake, would be getting the start
in net tonight, after playing the majority of the previous game in a
relief role. The first period got off to a good start or the
FireCats, as they scored the games opening goal on a slap shot that
snuck past the Rangers goalie two and half minutes after the opening
faceoff. The two teams would trade quality scoring chances during
the rest of the period, but the goaltending was up to the task. The
FireCats kept attacking though, and they persistence paid off with
their second goal of the period, after they tapped the puck in
following a scramble in front of the net. That would be the final
goal of the period, as the FireCats would take the 2-0 lead into the
first intermission.
The second period was similar to the first, as Novi once again
got on the board first, making it a three nothing game. This time
the goal came on a 2 on 1 breakaway, with some nice give and go
passing. The Rangers switched goalies midway through the period, and
the FireCats greeted the new net-minder with an onslaught of shots.
They finally managed to sneak one past, on a shot from the circle
that found it's way through a crowd. That goal would make it a 4-0
game, and that would be the score when the period ended.
In the third period the FireCats took advantage of one of the
games few power plays, as they got another 2 on 1 opportunity,
ending the power play shortly after it began. With just under five
minutes remaining, the FireCats would score the games final goal, as
they coasted to a 6-0 victory. Way to go FireCats! |
