June 13th, 2018

Last night was a little warmer than Monday night, so sleep was a little bit harder to come by. I was actually awake before my alarm went off, and once it did the other chaperone and I started waking up the boys, most of whom were still dead to the world. We had to get moving though, as today was our last day in camp. That meant that we had to clean out the cabins and load all of our belongings into the vehicles for the trip back to school this afternoon.

Before we left, I took this picture from outside of our cabin...

DeRoy Camp

When the bags were packed and loaded, it was time once again to head off to breakfast. Like yesterday, today's breakfast wasn't much to brag about. We were handed our tray with a fried egg sandwich with some more of the cold cubed potatoes (probably left over from yesterday). As before, the option to have cereal or hard boiled eggs was available, in addition to water, orange juice, and milk to drink. I cannot even pretend to say that I am sad to say that this is our last official meal here...

Breakfast at the Dining Hall

Our egg sandwich with potatoes. I only ate the egg and, and skipped out on the bread.

This is the first of my three trips where there was a chance to take an organized class picture. I thought it would be on the bleachers, but they instead assembled the kids down by the lake. Here are my best pictures...

The entire class gathered together for their picture.

If Jayden and her friend Marissa were asked to pick their least favorite activity, this would easily be it... the Pond Expedition. The kids were tasked with going out to one of the ponds (some of the groups) or the lake (Jay's group) to take a survey of the pond life. Being that this was the last day, and it required digging around in the mud, neither of the girls were thrilled with this particular activity...

The final activity of camp was Archery. Most of the kids in Jayden's group had never shot a bow and arrow before, but a couple had. You could easily tell those who had versus those who hadn't. The parents also got a chance to try this activity out as well, and let me tell you it is a lot harder than it looks - Jay kicked my butt! Jay hit the center of the target once, and I never even came close. This is another one of the activities that the kids had a lot of fun doing, and not one of us got hurt doing it!

Archery

Jayden and her classmates listening to the instructor give instructions on how to shoot a bow and arrow safely.

Jay up for attempt #1...

...and letting the arrow go...

...but hitting the ground short of the target.

Time for attempt #2...

...that turned out to be much better...

...as she hit the out blue ring of the target.

Attempt #3...

...wasn't much of a success...

...and Jay was disappointed in this one.

Rodney holding his arrow - "setting the table" - before loading his arrow.

Jayden back up for her second turn...

...and sending the arrow flying...

...and coming up towards the ground once again.

Time for attempt #5...

...sending the arrow through the air...

...and hitting the blue ring once again.

Jay admiring her shot...

...before bringing her bow down.

Jay up for her final attempt...

...that hit the yellow circle!

Rod up for his final turn.

After leaving the Archery activity, we headed through the village one last time on our way to lunch in the lodge...

DeRoy Village

Jayden, Marissa, and Allison running through the village one last time.

Before climbing on the bus to head back to school, we gathered at the DeRoy Village lodge for lunch. Pizza was brought in from Little Caesars today, and after eating camp food for the past three days (along with the junk food that I smuggled to camp in my bag) it tasted like the best pizza ever! The kids passed the time while waiting for the pizza to arrive by playing games and talking in the lodge. After we ate it was back to school to unload the vehicles. Jay and I headed home for a nap after an exhausting three days of fun!

A silly group picture of the girls.
