It has been a little over two months since Sam has played in a
soccer game due to a concussion that she suffered during a
collision, so a little rustiness was to be expected. What wasn't
expected was the rustiness that the rest of the team exhibited,
although to be fair it had been a month since their last game
together too. It took a while for things to get going, as the two
teams took turns with the ball in their offensive zone without
scoring. It wasn't until late in the half that a goal was scored,
thanks to a nice play in front of the net it was FC Sarasota that
was able to grab the early lead. That goal would be the last shot on
net in the half, as the two teams would head into the break with the
score 1-0.
Things opened up a bit in the second half, as the FC Sarasota
girls were able to get a quick score, making it a 2-0 game on their
first shot of the half. They would add another goal before the water
break, widening their lead to 3-0. They would tack on yet another
goal coming out of the water break on a nice passing play, making it
a 4-0 game. At that point it appeared as though the FC girls began
to back off a bit, as the Cape Coral squad mounted a bit of a
comeback. They would score on a nice shot that soared over the
Sarasota keeper's head and into the net, making it a 4-1 game. They
would get another one later on, narrowing the deficit to 4-2.
Thankfully the Cape Coral girls comeback effort was too late in the
game to be completed successfully, as the FC Sarasota girls were
able to seal that at that point, taking the victory by the 4-2
score. |
