Without having many activities to participate in this school
year, Jayden has opted to play rec soccer at the YMCA as a
temporary fill in until club tryouts later this spring. The YMCA, in partnership with the
Venica Area Youth Soccer Association (VAYSA), came up
with an all girls program since many teams through VAYSA are co-ed.
There was enough girls that signed up that they are able to field two teams, allowing them to play against each other
while rotating through the various positions and mixing up
the players each week.
In this particular game, Jayden played center midfield. She did
fairly well considering she hasn't ran, conditioned, or practiced
except for one time before today. All the girls became exhausted and
looked forward to a water break. In the first half, Jay's team
managed to come out strong and score their first goal. Shortly after
the first water break, the opposition battled back, forcing
the game to be tied at 1-1. Jay really seemed to have a great
time. She seemed to struggle a bit with her foot work, but overall
knew where to place the ball so the forward could carry the ball to
the goal.
Just after the second half began, Jay's group scored a
goal to take the lead. Unfortunately, after the water break a change
in goalkeepers was made, and the game quickly changed as the
opposition was able to score
two more goals to grab their first lead. The game would come to a
close with Jay's team suffering a 2-3 loss.
All in all, I can say Jay is having a great time and she is using
this time to freshen her skills in preparation for club tryouts in
the next month or so. |
