Game #6

9:30pm
TGH Ice Plex - Tampa 1st 2nd 3rd Final
Riverview Ice Sharks Blue 1 1      1 0 3
Plant Panthers Black       1 1 0 0 2

Period Length

12:00 12:00 12:00

If there is one thing that the Riverview Ice Sharks Blue haven't been known for through their first five games of the season, it is fast starts. In fact, they have only scored in the first period twice, and one of those goals came with under a minute to play in the period. Tonight it was a different story, as they would net their first goal of the period just 30 seconds in, on a tap-in of a rebound. Less than two minutes later they would answer with another goal, on another rebound that got shot up high over the goaltender. The 2-0 lead would match their biggest of the season to date. Unfortunately, it wouldn't last, as the Panthers would answer with a goal of their own at the 4:25 mark on a beautiful pass through the crease that was redirected in behind the Ice Sharks goaltender. Just when it looked like the 2-1 score would hold until intermission, the Panthers would find the back of the net once again, this time with only 14.8 seconds on the clock, on a long shot from between the circles. That would know the score at two goals apiece, and that would be the score heading into the second period.

The second period would be more of a return to "normal" Ice Sharks hockey, as the action would slow way down throughout the period. Riverview would get called for an early tripping penalty, but they were able to kill it off. The Plant Panthers would get called for a tripping call of their own halfway through the Riverview penalty, making it a 4v4 game for a almost a full minute. Once the Riverview skater returned to the ice, they were able to take advantage of having the extra man by scoring their first power-play goal of the game, giving them a 3-2 lead with 7:25 remaining in the period. That would be it for scoring in the period, as both teams would trade shots on goal but neither were able to take advantage of their chances.

The third period wasn't what you would call great hockey, at least from a fan standpoint. Each team would take two penalties over the course of the period, which really disrupted the flow. Riverview took advantage of their opportunities the most, as they would outshoot Plant 9-6 during the period, and 9-2 after the initial Plant onslaught to start the period. The 3-2 score would hold until the final whistle, giving the Ice Sharks their second victory of the season, and their second in a row!
