Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates took the ice in
Amalie Arena to face off against the Bloomingdale Rajun' Bulls in an
early afternoon game. I missed the first period due to Jayden's
soccer game earlier in the morning, which meant I missed the lone
goal scored prior to the opening intermission, a Bulls shot that
found the upper left corner of the net. The second period saw a
lot of shots on goal early, and with 9:43 left on the clock the
Bulls struck again, widening their lead to 2-0 thanks to a nice pass
that found the front of the crease and was tapped through the Ice
Sharks goaltenders 5-hole. Riverview was able to kill of a penalty
to keep the score at 2-0, but it was once again the Bulls who would
find the back of the net. With just over four minutes remaining they
would find themselves on a breakaway thanks to an Ice Sharks
defensive miscue, which they would convert to make it a 3-0
Bloomingdale lead. With two and a half minutes remaining the
Riverview team finally converted on one of their chances, netting a
wrister from the right circle to narrow the deficit to two goals.
The 3-1 score would stand heading into the final intermission.
Riverview only had six minutes to play in the third period to try
to take the lead, but they couldn't manage many opportunities. They
finally scored with just over two minutes remaining on a near
identical play. The Ice Sharks goal came from a second wrist shot
from inside the right circle to make it a 3-2 deficit. Despite
pulling their goal with just under 90 seconds to play they weren't
able to make up the difference, falling to the Rajun' Bulls by that
3-2 score. |
