Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks got off to a quick start in
tonight's contest against the Durant Cougars, despite being
shorthanded due to several players being out of town for the travel
team's tournaments. The Ice Sharks scored on their first shot of the
game just a little over two minutes in on a nice shot from between
the circles that was deflected into the Durant net for a 1-0 lead.
Almost 90 seconds later they would make it a 2-0 lead after pouncing
on a rebound and knocking it home. The ice definitely tilted in
favor of the Cougars at that point, as they would manage the next
thirteen shots on goal, and converting on numbers 11 and 12 of those
shots. The first came on a wrist shot from the right circle with a
little over two and a half to play and the tying goal happening just
eleven seconds later on a tip in goal right in front of the net.
Just like that, the lead was gone. It looked as though we may be
headed to the first intermission tied 2-2, but the Cougars grabbed a
rebound and tapped in into the Riverview goal with just 2.9 seconds
left, making it a 3-2 deficit for the Ice Sharks. The second
period was once again dominated by the Durant skaters, as they held
a 16-5 lead in shots on goal. Somehow, some way the Ice Sharks
managed to keep them off the board and the game close at 3-2 until
the final whistle blew, signaling the second intermission.
The third period started well for Riverview, as they got the
first goal on a wrist shot up and over the Durant goaltender just
over a minute in, knotting the score at three goals apiece.
Unfortunately their lead lasted only fifty seconds, as the Cougars
pounded the net with shots before finally knocking home a rebound to
regain their lead at 4-3. They would take a 5-3 lead with a little
under eleven and a half to play as a Durant forward skating through
the entire Riverview squad and scored and easy goal in close. It
became a 6-3 game with nine minutes to play after grabbing yet
another rebound and scoring a goal in close. Durant's 7th goal came
after Drew blocked the initial shot, only to have the puck go
straight to an open Cougars skater who was able to fire home a shot
from between the circles, giving them a four goal lead with four
minutes to play. Riverview would tack on an additional goal with a
little over a minute to play after a nice pass to the crease that
resulted in an easy tip in goal and a 7-5 score. That would wind up
being the final score, as the Ice Sharks fell to the Cougars. |
