Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates returned to the ice
for their first game in three weeks, this time to take on the team
from Tampa Catholic. The game got off to a rough start, as the Tampa
squad scored the games opening goal just 34 seconds in, after
tipping in a rebound. Those few seconds led to an initial impression
that the Ice Sharks were in for a long night, but they came back
with a goal of their own just 33 seconds later to tie the game at
1-1. Tampa would retake the lead at the 8:20 mark, making it a 2-1
game. Riverview would tie the game once again three minutes later,
thanks to a nice pass into the crease that was backhanded into the
net. With just under three minutes to play in the opening period,
Tampa was called for a cross-checking penalty, and the Riverview
team took advantage just 12 seconds into the powerplay, thanks to a
shot that went behind the net, bounced back out front, and was
lifted up and over the goaltender, giving the Ice Sharks their first
lead of the game with a 3-2 score. That would be it for the opening
period, with the Ice Sharks holding their lead into the first
intermission. The second period got off to a rough start for the
Ice Sharks once again, though this time it took a little longer. 90
seconds into the game the Tampa squad scored after getting three
straight shots on net, with the Riverview goaltender making two
great saves before the puck finally settled into the back of the
net, knotting the score at three goals. That was it for scoring in
the period, though the Tampa Catholic team held a wide lead in shots
on goal. We would head into the final period with score tied at 3-3.
Tampa took another penalty just 70 seconds into the period, but
instead of taking advantage of the extra man on the ice, the
Riverview Ice Sharks instead gave up a shorthanded goal and fell
behind even further. With just under six and a half minutes to play
the Riverview deficit grew even larger, as the Tampa side scored on
a wrist shot that found the back of the net, making it a 5-3 game.
With just over five minutes to play the Ice Sharks answered back,
thanks to a nice pass to the front of the net that was tipped into
the net and narrowed the gap to 5-4. Tampa would score once again
with just over three and a half to play on another wrist shot, as
they regained their two-goal lead. Shortly after that Tampa goal the
Ice Sharks were called for a penalty, putting them down a man while
being down two goals. Thankfully they were able to kill off the
penalty, and even managed to get three shorthanded shots on goal
during the two minute time frame. The Riverview team did not give
up, and just 6 seconds after the penalty expired they scored on a
wrist shot of their own, closing the gap to 6-5 with just over a
minute to play. 17 seconds later Drew would find the back of the net
after gathering in the puck in front of the goaltender and flipping
it up and over to tie the game at 6 goals apiece. Tampa Catholic
would get the last two shots on goal of the game, but they were
unable to score, and the game would end in a tie, thanks to the
dramatic comeback from the Ice Sharks. Great job boys! |
