Jayden and her Florida Hawks teammates returned to the fields in
Brandon this morning to take on the Wimauma Lady Warriors in the
third game of the Brandon Cup for each team. Today it was the Hawks
who got off to a blazing hot start, as they scored on their first
shot of the game thanks to a player streaking down the left side of
the field and nailed a long kick that sailed into the right side of
the net. They didn't wait long to add on to their 1-0 lead, as they
would score on their next shot as well, as the ball bounced around
in front of the net a bit before the Hawks were able to get a kick
on net. The Warriors keeper got a piece of the shot, but not enough
to stop the ball from finding the back of the net and a 2-0 Hawks
lead. Despite the early scores, that would end up being the only two
goals of the first half, as the two teams would head into the break
with the same 2-0 score. It was the Warriors that stormed back in
the second half, as they too would score on their first shot on
goal. Their goal was a weird one, as it seemed as though the players
on the field all stopped, perhaps thinking a whistle blew.
Unfortunately one had not, so the goal was allowed and the Hawks
lead was down to 2-1. The Warriors would only get one more shot on
net, and they would convert on this one as well, on a slow kick that
went off of the keepers hands and into the net, make it a new game
with a 2-2 score. Between the two teams, there was only two more
shots on goal over the remainder of the game, and both of them came
off the foot of the Hawks attackers. Thankfully for the Hawks their
second shot ended up finding a way into the back of the net, though
not in the way that one would normally expect. The shot on goal
wasn't a bad one, but it likely would have been stopped by the
Warriors keeper had the ball made it through to her. Unfortunately
for the Warriors, one of their defensive players got a foot on the
ball and essentially kicked into her net for an own-goal. Certainly
not the outcome they wanted, but it was one the Hawks were happy
with. That would be the final goal of the game, giving the Hawks a
3-2 win, their first victory of the Brandon Cup! |
