Tonight marks game number two of the preseason for Jayden and
her Riverview Lady Sharks teammates, as they would face off against the
Braden River Pirates at Bloomingdale High School. Unfortunately
there isn't a lot of positive news to report on about tonight's
contest. The Pirates would get on the board first, after the Sharks
keeper came out to challenge, but the ball would make its way from
the left side of the field into the right side of the net, making it
a 1-0 game just nine minutes in. It would take a while before
another goal was scored, but it was Braden River once again taking
advantage of a challenging Riverview goalkeeper, finding the back of
the net for a 2-0 lead with five minutes to play in the half. After
starting the previous game, Jayden wouldn't get off the bench before
the whistle blew, ending the first half.
The second half definitely did not go the Riverview Sharks way.
Seven minutes in the Pirates would complete a pass to the middle of
the box, and the ball was fired past the Sharks keeper for a 3-0
lead. They would make it a 4-0 game just four minutes later, on a
breakaway where the Sharks keeper came out to challenge, but once
again didn't get to the ball first. Jayden finally checked in to the
game with twenty-six minutes to play, this time at forward, where
she stayed until the second half hydration water break. Following
the break Jay moved to the defensive end, and things quickly fell
apart for the Sharks. Braden River would score four quick goals. The
first of the four came on a shot from right in front of the net.
Jayden made a sprinting play to kick the ball away at the last
second, saving her team from giving up another goal as the ball got
behind the Sharks keeper. The next goal allowed came on a corner
kick that was knocked into the Riverview goal, making it a 6-0 game.
A short while later the Sharks keeper made a save but wasn't able to
fully corral the ball - as it came loose a Pirates player was able
to kick it into the back of the net, making the score 7-0. The game
ending goal came on another corner kick, which found its way to the
back corner of the goal.
After the game Jayden told me that one of the late goals came off
of her body, but I honestly didn't see that happen. She was pretty
down on herself after the game, feeling as though she didn't do
anything to help her team, not getting to some of the balls that she
should have. I pointed out the goal that she saved, but she didn't
want to hear about that. Let's hope things go a little better once
the regular season games start next week. |
