Car Accident

Home Up

Monday, May 22nd, 2023

Drew was going to work on US301 headed northbound around 10:30am on Monday, May 22nd, when he came towards an intersection approximately two miles from home. Unfortunately, a row of cars were trying to make the left hand turn onto the side road as he approached, and one of the cars apparently didn't see him, because both of them crossed paths in the middle of the intersection. Drew made a little swerve to try to avoid the turning car, but it hit him on the drivers side from fender/door area. Thankfully everyone was OK, even if the vehicles involved likely weren't. The sad part for Drew was that he was planning to leave for college in Michigan in about two weeks, and now he is without transportation...

We attempted to go to the tow yard to get some of Drew's belongings and to exchange the air intake and headlights that Drew had recently installed, but unfortunately we were not allowed to do so as this was a police impound yard, and though they were simple swaps that kind of work was not allowed. We did snap a couple of extra photos while we were there.

All of the side airbags deployed immediately upon impact.

The drivers side door was pretty smashed in and unable to open.

The front bumper was partially missing - likely from being dragged out of the ditch.

The bumper was separated on the passenger side.

The cross brace on the drivers side was also bent, meaning some twisting occurred somewhere during impact.

Another look at the headlight area on the drivers side.

We stopped back at the accident scene because we later noticed these two "Drive Safely" signs near where Drew's car came to rest. We didn't realize until we stopped that they had names on them, likely in memory of lives lost. Thankfully we didn't have to worry about that outcome today.
