Jayden and (some of) her Florida Hawks teammates made the drive
to Gainesville this morning to take on the Florida Roots FC at the
Jonesville Park Soccer Complex. For a while it appeared that despite
making the long drive north that this game would not be played due
to pouring rain, but the weather settled down enough to get the game
in. Jayden found herself on the
sideline to start this afternoons game. The Hawks had some good
looks at the Roots goal, but they weren't able to convert on any of
their early chances. They nearly converted on their final shot
before the water break, but it bounced off the crossbar and stayed
out of the net. The Roots would score back to back goals on their
next two shots, both coming on some slick passing plays down the
right side of the field. The Hawks keeper did her best to make the
stop, but came up short on both attempts. The teams would head into
the first water break with the Hawks down 2-0. Jayden got onto the
field when play resumed after the water break, and she
handled herself decently during her time on the field. The Florida
Roots squad
managed three shots on goal during the remained of the opening half,
but not were of the high quality opportunity. Jay would feel some
pain in her knee and a burning sensation in both calves during her
time on the field (likely due to overwork between club soccer and
school flag football). The coach moved her to center forward for a
while, but her team could not really maintain possession while she
was at that spot on the field. The two teams would head to halftime with the
Hawks down 2-0.
The Florida Roots team dominated the entire second half. They would
get the only shots on goal this half, six of them in total, while
the Hawks just couldn't get going on that end of the field. Jay
wouldn't step foot on the field again in this game, despite asking
to go in when one of her teammates had to come out injured.
Unfortunately the 2-0 loss moved the
Hawks to 1-2 in the Florida Cup Tournament. |
