Jayden's Florida Hawks soccer team had their final game of the
season at 9:00am this morning in Orlando, so we decided to spend the
remainder of the day at Walt Disney World. Jay and I were already
close, but Drew rode over with Grandma Terry and Uncle Steven and
met us at the Transportation and Ticket Center - despite not
planning it, we each arrived within five minutes of each other! We
opted for the boat over to the Magic Kingdom as it was leaving
shortly after we got on. The first thing we did at the park -
after setting up Steve's Disability Access Service (DAS) pass - was
eat the lunch that we had packed, since it was already after noon by
the time we arrived. We found a a table near the Plaza Ice Cream
Parlor and settled in.
Once lunch was over, we headed over to Tomorrowland to take a
ride on the Tomorrowland
Transit Authority Peoplemover. We got to see a lot of cool
sights during our ride, including the outside of Space Mountain,
the Tomorrowland Speedway, and TRON Lightcycle / Run.
We also went through the Space Mountain building and saw
something pretty cool and unique - the ride with the lights on!
Unfortunately for the people on the ride, it was stuck, but it was a
neat sight for those of us looking in!
After wrapping up our tour of Tomorrowland, we headed off to
Fantasyland for a ride on Peter Pan's Flight. We used the DAS
pass on this ride, as it had one of the longest waits in the park,
and because it isn't one that we get to ride very often. Although
the ride was enjoyable, it was certainly shorter than I remembered.
I'm definitely glad we didn't have to wait 45+ minutes to take our
trip to Neverland! Since we were in Fantasyland already, we walked
over to Gaston's Tavern so that Drew could try a LeFou's Brew and
get the souvenir stein that it is available in. Sticking to
Fantasyland, we wandered over to see the Enchanted Tales with Belle
show. Grandma Terry had never seen this one, so it a successful
"first" for this visit to the park! Up next was yet another
Fantasyland attraction and our second DAS ride of the day, this time
the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which is always a favorite of ours
despite being a short roller coaster.
The next ride was definitely our most anticipated ride of the
day, although we weren't certain that we'd even get a shot to ride
it today. I had set an alarm so that I could sign up for the TRON Lightcycle / Run
virtual queue at 7:00am, only to immediately have it be unavailable.
I was almost certain we had missed our opportunity for the day, but
Drew, Grandma Terry, and I all got on our phones at 1:00pm to try to
get into the second section of the virtual queue, and while Grandma
Terry and I were unsuccessful, Drew managed to get in and get us a
return slot! The time had finally arrived, and we were excited to
get our turn on the newest ride at Walt Disney World. Although I've
never seen the Tron movies, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride overall.
It was a cool experience overall, and one that I look forward to
trying again. The queue was cool, and although the Lightcycles
weren't the most comfortable to set on, I didn't find them anywhere
close to unbearable. Definitely glad we got a chance to ride it, and
would highly recommend it!
After our turn on TRON Lightcycle / Run, Drew and Jay hit
up the nearest Joffrey's Coffee & Tea Company to grab a couple of
donuts and a beverage. Unfortunately, Drew ended up spilling the
drink before he could fully enjoy it.
We were getting tired at this point even though it wasn't all
that late. Jayden and I had to be at the soccer fields at 8:00am
this morning, so that meant an extremely early wake up call for us
this morning, Drew had his Senior Prom Saturday night, and Grandma
Terry and Uncle Steve had to make the extra drive up from Sarasota,
making it a long day for all of us. We were ready to call it a day,
but wanted to hit up one last ride - one we haven't been able to
make since we've had our annual passes as it has been closed for the
past four years! I'm referring to the Walt Disney World Railroad!
We got on in Fantasyland, as it was the closest stop from our exit
from the TRON Lightcycle / Run ride. The next stop was the
station at the front of the park, but we wanted to complete the
entire loop, so we continued on around the rest of the Magic
Kingdom, before finally departing at the Main Entrance station. This
was the first time that Drew and Jayden have gotten the opportunity
to ride the train, so another "first" for this visit!
We opted to take the monorail back to the Transportation and
Ticket Center, as we take the boat so many times that we wanted a
different experience. We headed off to our separate cars to make the
drive home. We continued our tradition of making one additional stop
on the way home, for dinner at Chili's in Champions Gate. We enjoyed
our meal, even if the service here is still a challenge - I mean,
how hard is it to get refills to a table? Regardless, it was a great
day spent together with family. Until next time! |
