Home Up

Sunday, June 18th, 2023

We woke up this morning at the Home2 Suites by Hilton Orlando at FLAMINGO CROSSINGS Town Center in Winter Garden. I woke up at 7:00am to sign up for the TRON Lightcycle / Run virtual queue, and I was successful in getting in, snagging a spot in group 36. With a little bit of time to go before we were required to be in the park, we all took turns showering and eating breakfast before heading off to the Transportation and Ticket Center to meet up with Samantha.

We arrived at the Transportation and Ticket Center a little after 9:00am, and found ourselves parked just two rows behind Sam. She walked over to meet us as we were unloading from the car. We made our way over to the Tram to ride up front to make our way through the security line before meeting up with Grandpa Gary, Grandma Terry, and Steven. From there we boarded the ferry for the ride over to the Magic Kingdom.

Our group for TRON Lightcycle / Run had been called by the time we entered the park, so we made a quick stop at Guest Services at the front of the park to make sure that we all were signed up for Steve's Disability Access Service (DAS) pass. Once that process was wrapped up, we headed over to Tomorrowland to give Sam her first ride on TRON Lightcycle / Run. This was now my third time getting on the newest ride at the Magic Kingdom, and it was by far the longest wait that I have had so far. Still, the ride was enjoyable and Sam definitely had a great time.

By the time we made it through the line and got off the ride, it was nearly noon, so we decided to head to Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café to find a table to enjoy the lunches that we packed. After finishing the sandwiches we packed, Sam and Drew headed off to The Lunching Pad to grab a couple of Mike Wazowski Cake pops to try and a Frozen Blue Raspberry Slushy for Sam.

We were all feeling better after getting to eat our lunch, and it was not time to head off to our next ride, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which is one of our favorites despite the usually long wait time and short ride. While we were in Fantasyland we headed over to Gaston's Tavern so that Drew could get a LeFou's Brew drink and Tara could try out the new "The Grey Stuff Cupcake". Tara was not overly impressed with her selection, as it really was nothing more than a cupcake with a giant helping of grey colored frosting on top.

At this time we decided that it would be a good time to head on over to Epcot to enjoy some of the Flower and Garden Festival offerings. We took the monorail over to avoid the hassle of driving and going through security, plus it allows us the opportunity to check in on the construction taking place in Epcot.

Our first destination in Epcot was the Creations shot to pick up the latest Passholder magnet, Tara's favorite - Figment!

From there we headed off to the World Showcase to get some food and drink. Stop number one was in Canada for a Melonade, which was "a tangy blend of frozen lemon with a burst of watermelon", from the Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Company. We then made our way to France, where we ended up purchasing a couple more adult beverages from the Fleur de Lys outdoor kitchen to try out - a La Vie en Rose Frozen Slushy (vodka, Grey Goose L’Orange vodka, St. Germain liqueur, and white and red cranberry juice) for Grandma Terry and a Kir à la Poire (French sparkling wine with Monin desert pear) for Samantha. Continuing our walk around the world, Samantha made another stop, this time at the Tangierine Café: Flavors of the Medina outdoor kitchen in Morocco for a Bold Rock Tangerine Hard Cider.

Moving away from the drinks, we next stopped at Karamell-Küche in the Germany pavilion to get some fresh Werther’s Original caramel popcorn as well as a milk chocolate caramel with sea salt for myself!

We then headed back to France, as our return time for Remy's Ratatouille Adventure had been called. Unfortunately we stood in the line for quite some time without it moving at all, and it appeared that it wasn't going to move for a very long time based on comments overheard as people left the line from the front. We decided that it just wasn't worth waiting and that we would instead make our way towards the front of the part to climb back on the monoral for the return trip to the Transportation and Ticket Center.

We ended up making a couple of detours on our way to the exit. First, we stopped at the EPCOT Farmers Feast outdoor kitchen located near Test Track for a drink that Tara wanted to try out - a Ghost Mary, which is a translucent Bloody Mary with Boyd & Blair cucumber vodka, tomato water, horseradish, celery salt and a hint of pepper. While we were in the area, we decided to take advantage of Grandpa Gary's GM quick access to take a spin on Test Track before we left.

At this point we decided that it was actually time to head out, so we made our way to the wheelchair return spot, where Samantha hopped her way through the hopscotch course laid out on the ground before heading off to the monorail. We each made our way to our respective vehicles to make the drive back home. Of course, we had one additional stop to make on our way - Chili's!

As always it was a great day spending time with our family at a place we all enjoy. It isn't often that we get to spend the day with Samantha at the park, and although Tyler and Jayden weren't there, it was as close as we'll get to a family trip for a while. Thank you all for a great day, and I love you guys!
