Home Up

Saturday, September 23rd, 2023

Grandma Terry, Uncle Steven, Aunt Erica, Tara, Drew, Jayden, and I woke up this morning and had breakfast in the condo before getting ready to head to the parks. Although Tyler and Samantha weren't with us, we did find a show on TV that brought back memories of their youth!

After leaving the condo we headed off to Disney's Hollywood Studios. After heading in to the park, we had to decide what to do while we awaited Samantha's arrival to the park to join us. We decided to head over to Star Tours - The Adventure Continues, as the line is typically on the shorter side. As always, we enjoyed our time on this ride, though we were all disappointed to not be selected as the spy!

Sam made it the park while we were on Star Tours - The Adventure Continues, so we met up with her afterwards before deciding on what to do next. We decided to utilize Steven's Disability Access Service (DAS) pass on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, as that is one that Sam hasn't been on in a while and we all enjoy it. We had some time use before our return time arrived, so we decided to head over to Sunset Boulevard to take a turn on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror - well, half of us did. Grandma Terry, Aunt Erica, and mom stayed behind while I went with Drew, Jay, and Uncle Steve. We loved our time on this thrill ride, and it even felt like we got an extra drop thrown in for fun today too!

After our turn on the The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror we decided that it was time to eat the lunches that we packed. We found a table at the end of Sunset Boulevard at the Sunset Ranch Market, where we settled in to eat.

When our time finally arrived, we headed off to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge to take our turn on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Once again we found ourselves having a great time on this ride - it is definitely one of our favorites in all of the parks!

Our original plan for the day had us spending some time at Disney's Hollywood Studios before park hopping over to Disney's Magic Kingdom. It was getting late enough that we decided now was the time to change parks. We briefly discussed using Disney transportation between the two locations, but decided that might be more trouble than it was worth when it came to leaving the parks at the end of the day, as the fight getting back to our car might be rather time consuming. It was decided instead to take the cars over to the Transportation and Ticket Center - well, all of us except for Steve and I. In order to prevent us from having to disassemble and reassemble his wheelchair, we found ourselves riding the Disney Skyliner over to Epcot before transferring onto the monorail for the Transportation and Ticket Center. We then rode the ferry boat over to meet everyone at the Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately this was a high-effort, time consuming process and ultimately would have been easier just to fold up his chair and make the drive with everyone else!

See below for the details from the rest of our day...

Steve on the Disney Skyliner to Epcot.

Though it was a lot of work, we all eventually met back up at Disney's Magic Kingdom. We decided to utilize Steven's DAS pass to ride on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. With that booked, we had to decide what to do in the meantime. He headed over to Tomorrowland with the initial plan of seeing the Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress show, but instead decided to get in line for the Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor show instead, as not all of us had seen it before. Although it is definitely aimed at a younger audience, we still all enjoyed the show.

When our time was called, we headed over to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for our turn on the ride. We all still truly enjoy this ride, but I also think that we would all agree that we wish the ride itself was longer, especially based on the average wait time for this ride. Regardless, this is a ride that we will always attempt to enjoy.

During our time in the Magic Kingdom it was decided that we wanted to stay for the Happily Ever After fireworks show tonight. As it was getting later in the day, crowds were already beginning to form in front of the castle, so we staked out a spot to the left of the castle. With time to kill before the fireworks began, I booked another DAS pass, this one for the Haunted Mansion. It was just Drew, Steve, and I who wanted to take in this ride. We really enjoyed it, despite frequent stops as we made our way through. The three of us fought the crowds to find our way back to the rest of the group, but we found our access to them completely blocked by the crowd awaiting the fireworks. Drew made his way through, but there was no way we were getting Steve's wheelchair through the mass of people. Eventually Grandma Terry made her way out to swap places with me, and I fought my way back in.

Despite our group being separated, we all enjoyed the fireworks and the projections on the castle. When it was over, Sam and Jay decided to remain in the park (hours had been extended to 11pm) to try to get on a couple of extra rides, while the rest of us decided to head out. As expected, the worst part was getting onto some form of transportation out of the Magic Kingdom. We found our way to the resort monorail and took it over to the Transportation and Ticket Center before finding our way out to our vehicles.

Despite the late hour, we were all pretty hungry, so we continued our trend of stopping at Chili's for dinner. Sam and Jay ended up riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad before calling it a night. They would end up meeting us at Chili's, though Sam only came in to say goodbye and drop Jay off before making her way home. After we all ate, we did the same. Thankfully traffic wasn't bad getting to the restaurant or the remainder of the drive home, so we made pretty good time.

Another great day with my family. I am already looking forward to doing it again! Thank you all!
