Jayden travelled to Michigan last week to attend a Hozier
concert at Pine Knob Music Theatre. I came up to spend the week with
the Tara, the boys, and attend a couple of graduation functions for
family and friends. While we were in the state, we decided to start
touring college campuses for Jayden as she tries to make her
decisions on where to go following her senior year. Today we
visited the University of Michigan. This school is probably her top
choice at this time, but there are other schools to visit yet. Enjoy some of my pictures from our tour below! |

A look at the West Quadrangle, a mixed-gender residence hall
that is home to around 1,100 upperclassman and first-year students.
It’s conveniently connected to the Michigan Union and is across the
street from the South Quad Dining Center.

The Michigan Union building, completed in 1919. The Michigan
Union houses restaurants, student organization office space,
conference rooms, study areas, and other student resources.
At the front steps of the Union, just above the main entrance,
two statues stand on the left and the right. On the left is the
athlete, facing towards south campus, home of the athletic fields
and Michigan Stadium. To the right is the scholar, looking towards
Central and North Campus, home of the student life of the University
of Michigan.
In a speech delivered on the steps of the Michigan Union October
14, 1960 at 2:00 a.m., presidential candidate John F. Kennedy
announced his Peace Corps proposal. A plaque at the steps now
commemorates the event.

The inside of The University of Michigan Law Library. One of the
unique features is the cork floor, meant to help suppress noise.
This is known as the quietest building on campus, and we couldn't
even hear our footsteps on our walk through.

A look across to the Ross School of Business. New York City real
estate developer Stephen M. Ross gave a gift of $100 million to the
business school, the second largest donation ever to a U.S. business
school and the largest gift to the university in its history. In
recognition, the Board of Regents met in special session on
September 9, 2004, to rename the school the Stephen M. Ross School
of Business. In 2013, Ross announced a second gift to the school of
$100 million. The second gift was used for facilities upgrades,
including high-tech classrooms, a new career services space, and
additional areas for practical research; as well as student
scholarships. In September 2017, Ross donated an additional $50
million to the school.

While we were in Ann Arbor, we wandered around downtown a little
bit. We did some shopping at the M-Den on State Street, and had
lunch at Hop Cat. We also wandered into what we affectionately call
Graffiti Alley, a spot we have visited before. The pictures below
are from the alley... |

The entrance to the alley was our introduction to what somebody
put a lot of time into creating - FARTS!
