Coach Samantha, Jayden, and the Riverview Lady Sharks played
their first home game of the season today, facing off against the
Spoto Spartans. The Lady Sharks absolutely dominated this game,
and realistically it should have been over much earlier, were it not
for some outstanding play from the Spoto keeper. Riverview managed
21 shots on goal in the opening half, but only managed to score
goals on three of them. The first of those goals came on a play when
the Spartans keeper actually made a save, but unfortunately for her
it was square to her face and she wore glasses, and immediately went
down on the play. The Sharks were able to easily kick the ball in at
that point, giving them a 1-0 lead on their eighth shot of the
contest. Coming out of the water break, the Sharks continued to
attack. They got back on the board on another play where the Spoto
goalie made the initial save, but the Sharks were able to jump on
the loose ball and kick it in for another score, making it a 2-0
game. A short time before the half came to a close, a similar goal
occurred - another save from the Spoto keeper that resulted in
another rebound goal and a 3-0 lead for the Sharks.
The second half continued with Riverview dominating the action.
The fourth goal of the game for the Sharks came on yet another
rebound that they were able to kick in following a save by the
Spoto keeper. The goal that moved the score to 5-0 came on a nice
cross pass by the Sharks that ended with an easy kick in goal on the
backside of the net. The next goal came when the Spoto keeper came
out to challenge the attacking Riverview player, but the Sharks
forward was able to control the ball and move around for an easy
"lay-up" goal, making it a 6-0 score. I was so busy recording the
goals and texting the score to Jayden's mother that I completely
missed goal number seven. The final score, which ended the game 8-0
due to the mercy rule, came on a direct kick from outside the box
that sailed high over the Spoto keeper and into the top of the net.
Definitely one of the best shots the Sharks have had all year!
Oh, remember when I said the Spoto keeper played outstanding? Her
team was outshot by a margin of 33-0 overall! Though she allowed 8
goals, several came on rebounds that her teammates were unable to
clear. She definitely put the effort in tonight!
With that said, the Lady Sharks played great tonight, and I am
looking forward to them building on this progress! Go Sharks! |
