Jayden and her Tampa Dynamo teammates travelled to the JC Handly
Sports Complex in Brandon tonight to play in the opening game of the
Brandon Cup tournament, facing off against a familiar foe, the
Wimauma Lady Warriors. Tonight's game was the third of the season
between these two teams, with the Warriors holding a 2-0 record and
outscoring the Dynamo by a 10-1 margin. Some nice passing early
worked in the favor of the Dynamo team, as they were able to lead
their attacking center, who managed to fire a long shot past the
outstretched leg of the Warriors goalkeeper on the first shot of the
game, giving them a 1-0 lead. Wimauma got the next couple shots on
net, but they were unable to convert on them. Tampa gained control
of the ball once again, drove down the field along the sideline, and
fired another shot into the net, making it a 2-0 game. The Dynamo
girls kept attacking, and struck again a short while later thanks to
a tight angle shot in close, making it a 3-0 game heading into the
first water break. Partway through the remainder of the opening
half, the Dynamo girls would score once again, this time off a shot
that went to the front of the net, and although that shot didn't
find the net, the deflection did, making it a 4-0 game. Wimauma
would get on the scoreboard just before the halftime whistle, with
their goal coming on a penalty kick following a penalty on the
goalkeeper. That 4-1 score would hold until halftime.
The second half was more of an evenly played half, with both team
trading chances. It was the Dynamo side that was able to take
advantage of one of their opportunities. On the lone goal of the
second half, the Tampa attacker outran the defense once again,
resulting in an easy shot on goal and a 5-1 lead. That would be the
score when the final whistle blew as well, with the Tampa Dynamo
winning their first game of the Brandon Cup tournament. Way to go,
girls! |
