Jayden and her Tampa Dynamo teammates resumed play today, after
taking a winter-break to allow for the high school season. They
travelled to Punta Gorda to take on the Charlotte County Soccer
Federation at the South County Regional Park. With the game
underway, it was clear that the girls hadn't played together in
quite some time. It only took one shot attempt to put one team on
the scoreboard, unfortunately it was a Charlotte County shot that
went across the goal mouth after the Dynamo girls were unable to
clear the ball from their zone. That goal, just six minutes in, made
it a 1-0 deficit for the Dynamo girls. The Charlotte County squad
controlled the action for nearly the entirety of the first half,
only allowing two Tampa shots on goal, neither of which they were
able to get past the opposing keeper. With just ten minutes
remaining in the half, Charlotte County added to their lead, after
the Dynamo were once again unable to clear their zone. This time
they caught an unlucky break, as they deflected a pass right to an
open Charlotte player, who scored by slipping the ball under the
diving Dynamo keeper. That made it a 2-0 game. Just a couple of
minutes later Charlotte County would score again, this time when the
attacking player got past Jayden (playing defense at this point
instead of her normal forward spot) along the sideline, and nailed a
long shot to make it a 3-0 game. That score would last until the
halftime whistle blew.
Things didn't go a whole lot better for the Tampa Dynamo in the
second half, as they were once again severely outshot by the
Charlotte County squad. They managed to limit the damage early,
despite being outshot, but around nine minutes in Charlotte County
would make it a 4-0 game, this time kicking home a rebound after the
Dynamo keeper made the initial save, but nobody from Tampa was
around to clear the ball from the box area. Thankfully,
despite giving up at least five more shots (I missed some game
action when Jay was subbed out briefly and I raced off to use the
restroom) the Dynamo were able to keep Charlotte County out of the
net. The final score would stand at the 4-0 mark, handing the Tampa
Dynamo girls a loss in their return to the pitch. |
