On our way out of The Grand Reef area we stopped to see a
handler with a Tawny Frogmouth, a bird that looked a lot like an owl
(our first thought when seeing it). After chatting with the handler,
we learned some of the different physical features of the two
species, but it was also easy to see why we were so confused. We
also headed down to the area that was home to Serenity Bay, the
Wind-Away River, and the Freshwater Oasis. Here we saw a trio of
otters playing and fighting each other. This is an area that I wish
we had explored further, as I believe we missed an opportunity to
see lots of additional animals, but frankly we were just too cold
after being in the water in these low temps most of the day. Again,
an opportunity for our next visit, if and hopefully when we get the
opportunity to do so again! Our last stop before heading out was
at the gift shop. Although we didn't buy anything today, there were
a few things that caught our eye. Jayden found a t-shirt (with a
hammerhead shark on it and the caption "Nailed It") while I found an
amazing sea turtle sculpture and some wood/glass combo pieces that I
really liked. Unfortunately, not in my budget (and probably never
will be) this time.
I think that Samantha, Jayden, and I all agree that we would like
to enjoy this experience again. We would love to be able to add the
shark swim experience to our next visit, as well as explore the
Wind-Away River area further. I can say that we all loved our time
with Capricorn, and we all would come back and do it all over again! |
