Golden Hike

Saturday, August 29th, 2026

Tara & I headed off to Golden this morning with the intention of hiking the Clear Creek Trail to the Clear Creek Canyon Waterfall. We had a beautiful drive into Golden and attempted to park at Trailhead 1 to make the hike to the falls, but found that it was completely full. Instead we headed to the next trailhead, the CCR Trailhead, where thankfully we found parking plentiful.

After exiting the truck and making our way to the trail, we headed east on the trail towards the waterfall. Unfortunately, our first bit of bad luck bit us, as we were only able to hike a (very) brief way until we discovered that the trail going further was still under construction! We were forced to turn back, and at this point we decided to get back in the car and drive towards the waterfall.

We continued down the highway in search of the waterfall, following the GPS. It was taking us on a 30 minute drive, which we couldn't believe to be accurate. What we realized after driving for quite a while was that the GPS was taking us way out of the way to a turn around location for a destination that was less than a 1/2 mile from where we started! We ended up making a U-turn at a pull off along the road and heading back.

Our second bit of bad luck came when we realized that the waterfall we were looking for, the Clear Creek Canyon Waterfall, is actually a seasonal waterfall, and was completely dry during our visit. Our hike would've been for naught anyway!

Instead of doing anything else in Golden, we opted to head to Denver and go to IKEA to do some browsing for shelf options for each of our dens. We figured we'd head back to Golden to do some hiking another day.

That is it for my pictures. We found some great options at IKEA before heading home for the day. Although we didn't get to do what we wanted, it was a productive day nonetheless, and I will always take a day beside the one I love!
