Tara made plans to surprise me with a Candlelight Concert
tonight, a Candlelight: 90s Unplugged concert at the Trinity United
Methodist Church in Denver. Our setlist for the night was the
following songs:
- Everlong - Foo Fighters
- Don't Speak - No Doubt
- Zombie - The Cranberries
- Ironic - Alanis Morrissette
- Wonderwall - Oasis
- High and Dry - Radiohead
- Enter Sandman - Metallica
- Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Fly Away - Lenny Kravitz
- Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley
- Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton
- Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
The songs were performed by the String Quartet - Range Ensemble.
The ensemble consists of four string musicians: two violinists, one
violist, and one cellist. Each of our four musicians, two males and
two females, took turn speaking to the audience between songs.
The venue, the Trinity United Methodist Church, was built in 1888
and was, when built, the tallest building in Denver at a height of
183'-7 1/2" from the ground, and was at the time of construction,
one of the tallest stone towers in the United States. The church is
built in the modern Gothic style. The pipe organ that is seen in
many of the pictures cost $30,000 in 1888 and 18 months to build.
There are 108 visible pipes with an additional 4,167 behind, for a
total of 4,275 pipes. At today’s estimation of over $2,500,000,
Roosevelt Opus No. 380 is one of the largest Roosevelt-built organs
of the 19th Century still in operation.
The concert was certainly enjoyable, but I mostly enjoyed my
company and the atmosphere. I would certainly consider another
Candlelight Concert, depending on the music selection and the venue.
We had plans for dinner afterward, but Tara wasn't feeling the
best (possibly food poisoning that affected her all weekend), so we
instead headed back to her house and picked up some pizza on the
way. Not the dream ending, but enjoyable nonetheless! |
