Home Up

Friday, February 27th, 2026

I woke up bright and early (or more accurately, dark and early) so that Grandma Terry could drop me off at the airport in Clearwater for my flight to Colorado Springs.

Instead of flying to Denver, Tara opted to have me fly into Colorado Springs so that we could do some sightseeing on the way back to her house. I managed to snag a couple of pictures from my first views of the mountains during this trip.

After Tara and I left the airport, we made our way to the Garden of the Gods, also located in Colorado Springs. Garden of the Gods is a public park, famous for its 300 million year old red sandstone formations, which are set against the backdrop of Pikes Peak. Although there are over 15 miles of trails for exploring, we didn't walk them all as we had other stops planned along our route back to Tara's house.

Our first stop today was at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs...

Unfortunately we ran into some vehicle trouble along our drive to our next destination after the Garden of the Gods. We ended up having to stop on the side of the road several times at Tara's Equinox was overheating. We finally discovered that the cap was completely off of the coolant tank, likely from one of her recent service visits (oil change and brake work), allowing the coolant to overflow. Once we discovered this we stopped at a gas station and bought a gallon of overpriced coolant. We found a nearby Walmart and bought more coolant (for about a third of the price of the first gallon for the exact same stuff!).

In light of the car issues, we decided it would be better to make our way to Tara's house instead of continuing on with our sightseeing plans. We were both afraid that we would end up stranded in the middle of nowhere, and we figured we could do the planned sightseeing another time. Although it was a bummer to cut our plans short, we both felt better erring on the side of caution, and we still managed to see some pretty sights along our drive. Hopefully I'll have more pictures to share from a future visit!

Unknown Locations - Colorado

The juxtaposition of the McDonald's sign against the mountains was too much to resist...

A cool rock formation we passed during our drive.

I got to see prairie dogs in the wild during our drive today.
