Home Up

Sunday, September 20th, 2026

Tara & I asked Samantha what she wanted to do while we were in town, and she suggested spending the day at Walt Disney World. She chose Epcot, as the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival would still be taking place.

Payton rode with Tara, Sam, and I to the park this morning, and we would be joined by Grandma Terry and Aunt Erica later on (once Grandma had time to get ready, despite being up before all of us!).

Sam and I wanted to make a quick stop at Disney's Hollywood Studios, as the Kermit the frog Annual Passholder magnet distribution was coming to an end soon. If we didn't pick it up today, we would miss out on it. All four of us made our way to the International Gateway in Epcot, where Sam and I boarded the Disney Skyliner.

Tara and Payton continued their trek, making their way to the France pavilion to go for a spin on Remy's Ratatouille Adventure. After the ride they ended up meeting up with Grandma Terry and Aunt Erica in the United Kingdom pavilion. They settled in at a table outside of the Yorkshire County Fish Shop as Sam and I were nearing our return at this point.

When Samantha and I returned to Epcot, we met up with everyone at the Yorkshire County Fish Shop. We took a few moments to plan our next moves. We ended up deciding to head over to World Celebration, though we did make a quick pit stop at the Marketplace - Canada, where the six of us shared a couple servings each of the Cheddar and Bacon Soup (served with a pretzel roll) and the Filet Mignon (with mushrooms and mashed potatoes), both of which are 30th Anniversary Legacy Items for the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. Both of these are long term favorites of ours.

Our next stop was inside The Land building, where we took a spin around the greenhouses of Living with the Land. This was Payton's first time on this ride, and he seemed to enjoy it. I was a tad disappointed, as I hoped for more festival decorations throughout, though the ride itself was still enjoyable.

While we were inside The Land building, we also chose to get in line for Soarin' Across America. Aunt Erica opted to sit this one out as her motion sickness doesn't work well with this particular ride, and Grandma Terry stayed behind as well, as she had already ridden this one. That meant that Tara, Payton, and Sam would be experiencing this version for the first time today. I don't think any of them were impressed, as the abrupt transitions between locations takes away from some of the enjoyment of the ride, as does what appears to be some lower quality video for some of the locations.

With both of the rides inside of The Land complete, we decided to head across the park to World Discovery, first to get a snack then to climb aboard Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. We stopped at The Fry Basket marketplace, where we got two servings of the Fry Flight, which comes with sea salt-malt vinegar fries (our least favorite, due to the vinegar), truffle-parmesan fries with black garlic-truffle aļoli (the consensus favorite by far, and one I wish we could order individually), and sweet potato casserole fries with cinnamon sugar, candied pecans, and marshmallow cream (which would be the #2 choice, though none of us loved the marshmallow cream, and I could definitely do without the pecans). Tara also picked up a couple of cold drinks from the Refreshment Station,

After our snack Tara, Payton, Sam and I headed over to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Grandma Terry and Aunt Erica once again chose to stay behind, doing some shopping while the rest of us waited through the queue. We waited through the outdoor portion of the queue as gray skies approached, but thankfully the rain held off until we got inside. As always, the ride was amazing, and we got "September" by Earth, Wind & Fire as our song. If we were in the park just one day later, that would have been the only song played!

At this point Tara & I needed to head out. We needed to be at Tampa International Airport by 6pm for our flight home tonight. We said our goodbye's to everybody before walking out with Erica, so that she could get Samantha's stuff out of our rental car and get it into Grandma Terry's. We made the drive back to Tampa in time for our flight (which ended up being delayed by almost an hour anyway).

Grandma Terry, Aunt Erica, Payton, and Samantha stayed at Epcot for a while, making the trip around World Showcase, enjoying some samplings from the the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival.

I had a great time today, despite not having the time to do as much as I would have liked. I know that I won't hesitate to come back. Thank you to everybody who spent the day with us, celebrating Samantha's graduation!
