Game 1

Two friendly teams took the ice today, but once the games starts between two competitive groups of young men you know there are going to be moments of testiness. With that in mind the two teams posed together for photographs prior to the opening faceoff today.

After the formalities were out of the way, the games finally began. For the vast majority of the first period the two teams battled back and forth, with neither side finding a hole in the oppositions defense. Hamilton took a penalty late in the period, and that was the opportunity that the Flint team was looking for. They kept the puck on their sticks and applied the pressure. Finally, with 35 seconds left in the period the broke the ice, scoring the first goal of the game to a large applause. That would be it for the period, as the Flint squad led 1-0 heading into the second.

The first period was the highlight of the day for the Flint team, however, as Hamilton opened the floodgates in the second. Within the first two minutes of the period the tide had turned, and Hamilton grabbed a 2-1 lead. They weren't done, either, adding three more goals before the period was over, heading to the third with a 5-1 lead.

The third period was more of the same, as a power play goal 33 seconds in made it a 6-1 lead. One final goal with three minutes to go would cap the scoring as Hamilton cruised to a 7-1 victory in the opening game of the series between the two U14 teams.
